Biography
Dr Michael Ng obtained his Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics from The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Master of Economics and Master of Statistics from The University of Hong Kong, Master of Science in Quantitative Finance from The University of London, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Economics from The University of Leicester.
Dr Ng started his career as a teacher at Carmel Secondary School. He has taught in several universities in Hong Kong including the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology and the City University of Hong Kong before joining the School of Arts and Social Sciences in the Open University of Hong Kong in 2006 as a Lecturer of Economics. Dr Ng was re-titled as an Assistant Professor of Economics in 2013, and later promoted as an Associate Professor of Economics in 2016, and Dr Ng is currently the Head of Social Sciences cum Programme Leader of Economics. Concurrently, he was appointed as the Deputy Director of Public and Social Policy Research Centre in January 2019.
With over 10 years of professional experience in OUHK, Dr NG has developed a number of distance learning undergraduate courses for Economics programme, he is interested in teaching Macroeconomics, Labour Economics and Applied Econometrics. His research interests include Labour migration and Applied Econometrics. Dr NG has also conducted and organized training workshops for secondary school Economics teachers, also for financial analysts and consultants from business sectors. He currently serves as the Investment Director of Carmel Secondary School Alumni Charity and Educational Fund Limited, Subject Committee Member of Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education (HKDSE) Economics of Hong Kong Examinations and Assessment Authority, and Programme External Examiner of Hong Kong Nang Yan College of Higher Education.
